Why Our Actions Matter

  • The average American produces 4.4 pounds of trash per day. That amounts to 728,000 tons of garbage per day.

  • Only 1.5 pounds of that 4.4 pounds we produce each day will actually be recycled or composted.

  • Over 8 million metric tons of litter are entering our oceans each year

  • 91% of plastic isn't recycled (National Geographic).

“Of the 8.3 billion metric tons (of plastic) that has been produced, 6.3 billion metric tons has become plastic waste. Of that, only nine percent has been recycled. The vast majority—79 percent—is accumulating in landfills or sloughing off in the natural environment as litter. Meaning: at some point, much of it ends up in the oceans, the final sink.”

  • In the US, our recycling rate remains at 9% and has remained there since 2012.

The jaw-dropping statistics on this subject are growing and with it our awakening to the realization that we each have a role to play in the fate of our world.

It is through our actions that we can begin to slow the devastation our actions up until now have caused.  And it's ok to start small.  You gotta start somewhere.
